Biography
S. H. Z.
“She magicked a smile to the audiences’ faces…”
“Sie zauberte den Besuchern ein Lächeln ins Gesicht…”
H. A. Z.
““G. G. sings Richard Wagner’s “Wesendonck Songs” so richly and sensitively that the lyrical miniatures impressively expand into musical drama.”
“G. G. singt die „Wesendonck-Lieder“ von Richard Wagner so volltönend und zartfühlend, dass sich die lyrischen Miniaturen eindrucksvoll zum Musikdrama weiten.”
Der Opernfreund
… “a delightfully nasty pair of stepsisters … expressive voice”
… “ein herrlich-fieses Stiefschwesterngespann …. ausdrucksstarke Stimme ”
Gabriella Guilfoil first stepped onto the stage as a ballerina at the age of six and has never left it since. After completing her vocal studies in the USA, she moved to Germany, where she made her debut in 2016 as Roßweiße in Die Walküre at the Kiel Opera. A season as a resident ensemble member at Theater Osnabrück followed, after which she continued her career as a freelance singer in Germany, performing in cities such as Halle, Lübeck, Bremen, Hanover, Lüneburg, and Gelsenkirchen. In addition to her stage work, Gabriella is a passionate recital and concert singer. She is a prize-winner in numerous competitions and a scholarship recipient from renowned foundations, including Live Music Now Hannover, Neustart Kultur/Deutscher Musikrat, and the Bremen Senator for Culture. Beyond opera and concert performance, her artistic work includes interdisciplinary collaborations in performance and installation art.
Although at home in both lyric and dramatic repertoires, she does not define herself by a single vocal category. Her goal is to sing works that harmonize with her voice and artistic expression, enabling her to authentically embody each role. Whether in dramatic moments or the subtle nuances of lyric pieces, her passion for singing and storytelling is what drives her.
She is currently preparing the roles of Lady Macbeth (Verdi’s *Macbeth*), Leonora (Beethoven’s *Fidelio*), Ariadne (Strauss’s *Ariadne auf Naxos*), and the Marschallin (*Der Rosenkavalier*). However, she is equally at home in dramatic mezzo-soprano roles such as Dalila (*Samson et Dalila*), Charlotte (*Werther*), Cassandre/Didon (*Les Troyens*), and Bizet’s Carmen.
